Our service trip to Peru is rapidly approaching, and I’m becoming more excited by the day. This is a great opportunity to work with community members in Pampas Grande, and I’m eager to learn more about the culture there. I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know people in Pampas Grande and working alongside them to build upon the great community programs that they have already established.
In any case, I'm really getting excited to use my particular skills and traits to make a positive impact during the service trip. I hope to use my EMT training to lend a hand in the clinic, and I'm really looking forward to interacting with the children in the different villages we will visit. Spending 3 summers teaching kids from ages 4 to 10 all different kinds of sports has been a great experience, and I'm really excited to take those skills to Peru, though I'm not sure how well my Spanish will hold up. I'll be using these next few weeks to brush up on my Spanish for sure, and probably my soccer skills as well.

I’m counting the days until the trip starts up, and I can’t wait to meet the people we’ll be working with. Although, truth be told, I have a feeling we’ll gain more from them than they will gain from us.
KJ is an undergraduate student at the University of Richmond. This will be his first trip to Pampas Grande, Peru.
